1990 Johnson tilt assist

Hello All,
Working on a 1990 Johnson 40 Hp TJ40ELESR, S/N G025238290.
The motor has the manual tilt assist. The actuating cable is bad. I have a new oem cable to replace the faulty one. My question is: What is the procedure for adjusting the new cable length for proper operation of the valve in the cylinder?

The last time I worked on one I had a factory service manual and it was no problem at all.
