Hi Guys,

I'm now relegated to service my 1990 24' Donzi with 454 OMC king Cobra out drive. This has been a very good and trouble free boat for many years. It's typically been serviced by the local boat shop, but this year I should do it myself it at all possible.
I've recently learned how to change the engine oil and filter, but now need advice on servicing the out drive.
I hope it's doable by a newbie.

Thanks again for your combined wisdom and advice.

Howdy,

Actually, I am going to defer to the other people here that have this drive. If it's a 1990 model, it's an "interim" Cone Clutch drive making it a little different than the (previous years) Dog-Clutch "King" Cobra drive.

Use any good marine type gear lubricant (Mercury HP, Volvo Syn, OMC, Amsoil, or Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil etc)

Get yourself an OEM, OMC service manual for that year model engine and drive, follow the OMC instructions for drain/fill.

Regards,

Rick
