my 1990 4.3 omc hydrolocked on me this weekend when pulling a tube. all cylinders had water in them. no water in the oil took off the intake seemed to look ok no obvious cracks or deteriated gaskets. however i did notice the exhaust flapper was broken on one side. the question i have can that cause all cylinders to ingest water? just wondering if i should keep looking while i have the intake off

Same thing happened to mine. I pulled the plugs cranked it over until no water was in the cylinders. I took my air nozzle and blew out each cylinder. I had to get new flappers. Come to find out i only had one out of two.

Re: 1990 omc 4.3 hydrolocked

I was looking down the exhaust tubes after I pulled my engine a couple of weeks ago and saw what looked like throttle plates. I looked at the outside of the tubes for an actuator or something that I might not have noticed when removing the wiring harness, and found nothing. So if these are the flappers, is the axle offset from center so that the normal flow keeps them open and back-wash closes them?

Another thing to check the fuction and condition of before I put the engine back in.
