Need some inslight into what might have happend to cost us a $700.00 tow home.
We are new to boating and purchased a very clean 1990 Doral Citiation. We have had it out four time for approx 2 hours per trip , the boat ran great. Monday we took it for a longer trip and had been traveling at approx 15kn with out a problem. As we entered out water coming out of a channel we applied more trottle and the engine died and would not start at all. We smelt smoke and burning rubber so we opened the engine cover and a small amout of white smoke was seen.We checked the intakes for blockages and found none. The tow driver was a mech as well and he could not start it and said the we might have seized the out drive.
Once back at the marina they found water in the carb and died it out and the engine started. How can we go from needing a stern drive repair to water getting into the carb when the trailing wave caught up to the boat when it stoped and flooded the engine.Does this make any sence to you?
Sincerely Tim:confused:

Howdy Tim,

Welcome to iboats!

Well, I am not sure from your description. There's a rather systematic approach you can take to troubleshoot though.

But first, you should maybe do a little reading. click the following link and have a look at the items listed. It's the same link at the top of this forum.Thread: ------------ADULTs ONLY -------------------------No Exceptions-----

Please pay particular attention to the first item in the list.

Regards,

Rick
