I currently use a 10 5/8" x12 prop on a 16 foot aluminum bass boat. I am running aobut 40mph. Can I increase my speed by installing a higher pitch prop and if so, could you suggest one. The boat is a Spectrum 17 ....Thanks for your suggestions. John

By changing to a prop with a higher pitch, you might get more speed. Hole shot will get worse. You need to stay within the recommended wide open throttle rpm range, say 5,000 to 5,500rpm. Generally, you want to aim toward the top of that range. If you go too far with the pitch it'll load the motor too much and you'll actually lose speed. You might try a 13 pitch prop. My feeling is that more pitch than that will be too much. But you never know until you try.

EDIT: I was thinking OMC. Sorry! You are in fact in the ballpark with the prop you have. Still need WOT RPM's to make a suggestion.
