1990 Yamaha 115hp reverse problems

I'm having problems getting into reverse. Sometimes it will go but lately it wont. I have notice lately that i have to go past neutral and then bck to it for it to been neutral. I was wondering if i just have a linkage out of adjustment. If so can anyone give me some advice how to properly adjust it.

Do you own the service manual for your outboard? If not I would suggest getting one. It does sound like the linkage is out of adjustment. Maybe someone else on here can talk you thru the adjustment procedure.
