my thermostats are not working on my 1991 115 v4 and i want to replace them. i bought the kit already but dang i cant get a wrench or socket down there. I can make a special tool to use but id like to know if i will have the clearance to remove and reinstall the parts themselves. is there any tips? thanks

A frustrating job for sure. With the bubble back exhaust, it is difficult to see the thermostat housing, let alone get to it. Try to loosen up the lower cover (cowling.) It needs to come down a few inches in the rear in order to get to it. You may have to take the two midsection covers off first-just below that lower cover.

If you are not too fussy, you can do what many crossflow owners have done for years and cut a access panel out of the lower cowl/cover. That way you can directly access the bolts. You can fill the hole with epoxy or make a cover. Either way you make the process of checking the thermostats an easy routine.
