1991 25hp how hot is hot

Hi, I'm suspecting an overheat condition @ wot after 1 or 2 minutes I get temp switch cutout to limp mode. At home in the drive way with muffs @ idel I get 169 degrees after 2 minutes. I tapped on the thermostat cover and it went to 142 degrees. Time for a new thermosta? Thanks.....Robert

Probably needs that new thermostat. How long since you changed the impeller? If it's been awhile, stick a new one in there. Overheating can kill that engine.

Concure, spend the $30 and be sure you have a motor next week, change the tstat and impeller as insurance.
It really isn't hard, if you need help just ask.

The end of the story is: I change the thermostat and cleaned the passages and the motor run 40 degrees cooler. Also it will run wot with out heating up and going into limp mode. I' m Happy. Thanks all!
