I have a 1991 Mariner 40 hp that is only firing on 2 clys. The top two are dead. Changed coil at spark plug wire out with one that is firing and this did not make a difference. Any suggestions?
They are 4 wires that got to the top of the box that the 4 wires from the plugs go to. The other four wires from the plugs go to ground. This is new territory for me. I knoq nothing about the insides of a boat motor. Any help is appericated
you need to test your elec. systemm.. it can be a stator.. probbly NOT a trigger.. possibbly a switch box.... this is based on hoe the system works... get a shop manuel..& fluke meter.. & ring it out... the only part you can't test is the switch box... test all others.. Be prepaired if the stator is bad.. you'll get a new red stator kit... starting @ about 350.00plus
There are 6 wires comming from the stator. Two yellow and one red/white one blue/white one red and one blue. Changed out the red/white and red and the blue/white and blue and lost all spark. Put them back and the bottom two had spark again. Hope this information helps so someone can tell me what to check next.
