1991 5.7l Ski Bluewater in a Malibu euroF3 195 skier.

Replaced the prop this year before putting the boat in this year, same specs as the old prop. Put the boat in and it runs great. Go back out later in the afternoon and its still running great but now there is a noise coming from the engine above 2000 rpm, no real vibration so don't think it is prop related. Open up the engine compartment and the alternator belt is flapping a bit so that seems to be what is wrong. Tighten up the alternator belt a few days later and take it back out, sound comes back when I get above 2000 rpm but still seems to be running fine, then it starts losing power, bring it down to idle (idles fine) then it has low power taking off and above 2000 rpm noise is still there. Take it into the dock, I pulled all the plugs and take a look at them (maybe 100 hrs on new plugs and wire, new distributor about 30 hrs ago) plugs look fine but cylinder 6 the wire seemed loose and the plug was a bit loose I think, the plug threads were also cleaner than all the other plug threads. replaced all the plugs and wires make sure everything is tight. Same noise and lack of power above 2000 rpm.

Anyone have any ideas? oil is clean, no metal no water.

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,..... My guess is, yer hearin' detonation, aka: spark knock, from a very lean condition,......

Were the ole spark plug electrodes rounded off, insteada sharp corners,..??

If I'm right, 'n you continue to run it, there'll be holes in the pistons fairly soon,.....
