Hello! New here to the forum.

We have a 65 Johnson that was running great last year, last going off in the season we fired it up and went for about 10 minutes, shut it off and did a bit of fishing and went to start again and there was no spark at all.

We assumed it was the power pack, so purchased a new power pack and now there is spark but it is extremely weak. Tried swapping coils out from another engine and there was no difference. Plugs look good too, and we swapped the boots from another engine.

Tested the stator and were getting readings on the two yellow wires but not on the two orange or brown wires.

What could our options be? Have seen some really great information on these forums and am hoping somebody can help us pinpoint what the issue might be. Thinking it might be the stator but don't want to invest $350 in a part when it might not be that afterall.

The model number for the motor is J65WMLEIB.

Thank you for your time!
Will

Those brown wires are part of the charge coils that supply a voltage pulse to the powerpack.----They could be the problem.-----What meter did you use that did not show any ohms on the brown wires ?----Your location.-----Manual start motor ?

Hey racerone!

We are using a fluke 325(?), Maybe 323, set to ohms.

We're in st. John's, Newfoundland, Canada!

Electric start.

So if we put our leads on the two brown wires, we should be getting some kind of reading I'm assuming?
