1991 70 Johnny S.LO.W. again

This has been an intermittant problem for a while now.<br />1. replaced powerpack and coils this cured problem for many outings, wires were brittle on back of pack<br /><br />2. replaced impeller and t-stats and relief spring<br /><br />3. did a good link and sync. carb rebuilt last winter<br /><br />when running today slow engaged no alarms? killed motor refired same thing, killed motor, unplugged temp sensor and refired same thing, sat there about 2 minutes started up and ran fine temp sensor still unplugged , What else do I need to look at. also temp alarm will sound when wire is grounded ?????<br /><br />Thanks

See a knowlegable dealer for service bulletins relating to cooling system changes, carb jets and timing changes, and possible temp sender replacements that apply to your motor.

Well, I had the same kind of problem, with my Evinrude 60HP, VRO from 1990.<br />Some times there was alarm, some times not when the motor went in S.L.O.W.<br />I did control every thing, changed power pack, new wirers, new diode etz. etz. But still same problem.<br />Today I have disconnected the VRO system, and mix the gaz ( 2% )by my self. The wirer to the temp. sensor is connected to a new alarm incl. alarm-light. So if there is temp. alarm, it will not go in S.L.O.W, but Ill get an alarm.<br />I know this is not the right way to do it, but after apx. 6 month S.L.O.W trouble, I fixed the problem on my own way.<br />Today it is running GREATE.

Here are most of the pertinent bulletins for your 70hp motor:<br /><br />60 & 70 hp service bulletins for cooling and overheating<br /><br />SB 2221 Temp sensor new sensor pn 584166, tan/blue stripe wire.<br /><br />SB 2225 thermostat seat new seat pn 336416, may not need this in fresh water.<br /><br />SB 2271 jet and timing kits <br /><br />SB 2276R1 relocate tattle tale nipple to top of block.<br /><br />SB 2276R1 and new pressure relief springs comes in waterpump kit pn 432955.
