I am starting the tear down to replace the exhaust port gaskets on my 1991 70 HP Force outboard. I have removed all of the bolts. My Manual says to pry the Port away from the cylinder carefully. I am concerned about putting too much pressure on it. Shall I get aggressive with this? I am just afraid of damaging the Exhaust Port Plate.

If you're concerned about damaging the plate, you can get one of those scrapers that holds a single edge razor. Push the razor into the edge of the gasket and cut the seal along one edge Take a small screw driver and gently pry the plate away from the block. Once you get the seal broken in one spot, the plate will come off without too much trouble. Just don't get too aggressive with the screw driver as the sealing edge of the exhaust chamber is pretty narrow in spots and can be damaged.

Thanks, I will try that. This is the help I needed at this point in the repair.
