I've acquired this boat from my girlfriends relative. I have seen the boat launched once, never ridden on it though.

Anyway, I am completely new to boats. I've never had one and obviously never maintained one.

This one's going to be a project. I'm allready in the process of ripping out the deck since the boat was never covered and developed rot. the seats need to be replaced. vinyl is shot. the finish is dull. the dash console has absolutely no labels to show which button does what.

What size batteries do boats use? I thought it may have been a 12 volt but after 1 full day on the charger on trickle charge it reads 25.8 volts AC

Where can I find a manual on the boat and the motor (Johnson 90hp)? would it be beneficial to remove the motor from the boat for the winter and store in my basement till spring comes? I figure I can probably find a maintenance manual for the motor with some googling.

Can you fine folks point me in some direction?

Boats use automotive type 12v batteries. They are 12v DC, not AC. Maybe you had your multimeter on the wrong scale. If the boat has been sitting up awhile the battery is probably shot anyway.

Usually not much to a boat manual, they all use the same components (controls, switches, instruments, etc.). Maybe the Cobia site has copies of old manuals you can download.

Lots of places to buy manuals for your motor. Just Google it as you said.

No benefit to taking the motor inside. Just make sure it's stored vertical so no water can collect in the foot and freeze.

If the basic boat and motor are good then it sounds like you would have a nice boat with a little work. If the deck is rotted make sure you check the stringers and transom also.

doh. i'm sorry. I was looking at the wrong scale. I should've known better. it's actually 12.6 VDC right now, so I guess that's good.

I will e-mail Cobia about a possible manual or just end up tracing the wires back to figure out what they belong to. I couldn't find a section on the website for archived manuals though.

The deck and stringers will be replaced. The transom looks good. The motor hasn't been winterized, that's why I was asking about bringing it in the house, since the gas tank is pulled.

you won't find a manual, they usually just say wash after use any way. you need the model number of the motor. reprint of original manuals are at "http://www.outboardbooks.com/"

Cobia's are very good handling boats, i've had 3. they have been around since the '60's.
