I'd love to learn about this too.. New to boating, but absorbing as much as I can..
Everything I've found about an aspirator, is that it either lets air out of the cooling system, and then is a restrictor for how much water comes out of the tell-tale, OR
As oldboat1 linked to, Some say it just lays in the pan and helps get water out of the pan...
I guess It depends on the engine?

Going to follow along and hopefully learn..

Well, as a whole, the system is setup so under low throttle positions, pressure is directed through the thermostats to close them so the engine runs warmer. Under throttle, it opens up, allowing the thermostats to operate normally.
The question I have about that valve, is that it doesn't hook to anything, and being hooked to the tell-tale like it is, it looks like water would just fill up the bottom of the engine. Seems silly.
So, I'm assuming that valve is a check valve of some sort, but mine is damaged and doesn't seem to do much of anything. (there is a spring, a ball, and a seat or collar)
