1991 Evinrude stalls at approx 5200 rpm

My 1991 Evinrude stalls at approx 5200 rpm when the boat trim indicator shows about 3/4 trim or more. The motor runs fine below 1/2 trim. I replaced the VRO with a pump without oil injection trying to resolve the stalling problem after which I realized it was only stalling when trimed above 3/4. I don't see any pinched hoses. I am mixing 50 to 1. Also, the motor will not trim out when moving, I must trim before I apply power.

What hp we talkin' about here Geo?<br /><br />Check your TNT fluid level. May be low and have a look around the trim/tilt unit for leaks.

Will it stall below 5200 rpms when trimmed above 3/4 ?? Only connection I can imagine between trim level and engine stalling would be a chaffed wire that is effected by the engine angle.

No, it only stalls when I exceed 5200, it acts like it is not getting enough fuel, If i back off on the throttle, it catches up.

Well if it will run at less trim out angle without a problem ,the only thing that comes to my mind is the change of fuel level in the carburetor/s float bowls.I would recommend that you remove and dismantle each and give them a thorough cleaning as well as setting the float levels at the recommended setting as per manual instructions.Also insure that the fuel connector on engine isn't being put in a bind and possibly leaking when engine is trimmed to the higher angle.Others may have more insight.That's all that I can think of.
