So we've been having this problem for quite some time now, and it has prompted us to sell our boat if the engine does not work again. It is a 1991 force 90hp on a spectrum cruiser 24 foot pontoon boat. It will run in idle speed, in any direction, and as soon as you goose it, it dies, and is hard to restart again. The fuel lines have been replaced, and the gas tank completely emptied. We have taken off the fuel pump, and replaced the seals and diaphrams, but we want to see if there may be another problem besides the fuel pump, because everything looked to be in good shape. PLEASE HELP!

So is it flooding out. When it dies check and see if spark plugs are wet. When it dies maybe try taking plugs out and purging cylinders with a quick crank and see if it starts back up easy. Get an open air spark adjustable gap tester see if each cylinder is getting consistent and strong spark that can jump 7/16 gap. If you got good spark and it's flooding out. Might be running to rich possible carb adjustment needed. Don't know a lot about carbs but someone here knows. Maybe you can't try these thing and narrow it down to spark or to much or little fuel though

Welcome to iboats.

Have you ever had the carbs disassembled and cleaned, floats adjusted, then carbs installed and sync'd ?

Model# ??
You have the of style choke or the primer system?
The primer has a diaphragm that can go bad and every time you give it gas it boosts
way more fuel into the carb and kills the motor"maybe"??

Like roscoe suggested clean the carbs and do a linc and sinc .
Check the linkage for broken or cracked connectors.

Welcome.
