Re: 1991 force L- Drive

Well, if the L-drive is the same as the Force outboards, if I remember correctly, you need to remove the little cotter pin from the shifter arm. It was kinda up high and toward the front of the boat. I remember a cotter pin and a smaller pin that had to be removed and the lower unit dropped out. The water pump was then right on top.

Sorry for the "maybes", but I got rid of the boat this year, (with the manual) and it was last year when I did the impeller.

Good luck!

You should be working from a manual Though im not sure where you would find one.
You might try the library check and see if
any outboard lower units are the same as your
IO.

Ummmm. Cable? Sounds like the L-drive is different then the outboard. On the outboard above the lower unit, but below the engine cowling, there was a little "l" shaped metal piece and hooked to another shaft that went into the LU. It had a metal pin with a hole and a cotter pin to hold it together. Sorry! I let my Force manual go with the other boat. I just jogged the web and couldn't find anything on the L-drives. Sorry!

thanks all, I have it under control. FYI. to remove lower gearcase on a Force L-Drive. remove exhaust snout and the seven bolts, one is hidden
under exhaust snout.remove the two cotter pins that holds the shift cable on. the unit should drop. the rubber donuts may hang it up. just prey them away from the unit and it will drop.
