I just bought a nice used boat and it has the 115 Johnson outboard motor. I feel stupid but I am not sure what kind of oil to buy for the oil injection resevoir. I am not even sure if its a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke.
Also is this a good engine?
Thanks,
Kojak

Kojak.... Your engine is a two (2) stroke engine. I recommend using either Evinrude or Johnson or Mercury Quicksilver 50/1 oil.

Hi Kojak 58

And I should add : If the Vro tank has been empty or disconnected, or this motor/boat is new to you, run one or two tanks with 1:50 premix oil/gas. Observe oil comsumption by putting a mark on oil tank. Otherwise you will damage your motor. Vro tank must be cleaned every year and premix procedure repeted.

Re: 1991 Johnson 115 V4 Novice questions

By the way, I just bought a 1991 115HK Evinrude V4 myself, havnt used it yet, plenty of ice on water. I sure hope its a good motor too, my first V4.

You can do a search for it on this board, you will find few 115´s there have problems, and usually only electrical. Even fewer of 1990 vintages. I hope it tells something !! I do not know if this motor has common weak points, but like to know.

Been runnin OMC V4's for 30 years (no not the same one) - good motors if given reasonable care.
