This boat has been setting for a long time - and I would like to replace the water pump. Question is - how do I detach/loosen the shifting rod? I had an older engine and it was a one bolt removal, but no clue on this engine.

Remove shift cable at the motor.-----Find the hitch pin on that horizontal shaft below the carburetors.----Remove that hitch pin.------Push that horizontal shaft to the port side and rotate it.----Shift rod is now loose.
