I am new in boating and have a chance to buy a showroom condition 1991 Ranger with a 1991 Johnson 175 hp. Local dealer tells me to stay away from the motor because between 1985 and 1995 all OMC was bad and would blow. true or false please give me some input. This unit has all records and service notes and is really clean and nice.

The 1992 150's all had sleeves. The motor is borable up to .040 over and the sleeve is replacable. Any good rebuild should last as long as any new powerhead.

Who's feeding you this line? I hope its nobody you are planning on paying to work on your motor.
