I have a 1991 Johnson 175hp serial# J175GLEIS. It has 6 carbs. I need to replace the water pump and am not sure how or where to disconnect the shift linkage. Can someone tell me how to do disconnect the shift linkage or post a picture of it. Also, is there anything special tricks or things I should be aware of before I get into this job.
Thanks, Mark

Should be a 60 degree engine right??? Remove the lower engine cowling. There is a clevis pin starboard side of engine, close to end of shift cable. Remove the pin, push inward on the end of the shaft that you removed the pin from, the gearcase shift rod will release.

I ended up taking it to the local boat mechanic and had him install a new complete pump and thermostats. Everything seems to be working fine now.
Thanks for the help.
