I have a 1991 Johnson 90 motor. My question is on the throttle lever assembly on the motor there is a bushing and a sleeve that goes through a radius slot. I need to know how much tolerance for movement there is supposed to be. Mine in neutral is able to move throttle lever on motor by hand quite a bit. There is quite a bit of slop between the sleeve and the throttle lever. I hope you can follow me on what i am trying to explain. I just need to know if this is normal or it needs replaced. We noticed it when we were trying to set the spark advance.
Thanks for the help.

A factory manual for your motor is your best friend. In neutral, your throttle handle/cable should be holding your idle screw snug against it's stop. If you can move it easily back and forth, it's too loose/maladjusted.

I have the factory service manual. I could not find anything related to it in there. It had no reference to any of the throttle lever or throttle cam. Unless I missed it. Just not sure if that sleeve is wore down or if it is made to be loose.
No it does not hold my idle stop tight, It idles fine though. I can move the throttle lever without the hand lever being moved. Probably 3/4 of an inch.

That's too loose. How hard are you putting pressure on it to move it? It should be snug up against the stop with the control handle in neutral and not easy to move at all. Do your carb butterflies open up all the way in full open?

It is not hard to move it at all. The butterflies do open all the way. I just bought last weekend and it was stalling out when putting in gear. I did carb rebuild and have them adjusted fine but noticed that the linkage was loose when trying to sync it up. Do you know which part of the throttle arm I am referring to. the part number for the sleeve is 331577. I am guessing maybe this should not be that free. I can make a sleeve to fit. Just wanted to kind of verify for sure that is what i needed to do.
