Hi All,
just got home from buying this pontoon. Can't find any info on who made it? google search refers me to Harris Flote Boat, but even NADA doesn't show a Kayot under their name. Just curious as to how much it weighs.

It's a 20' boat, new seats and carpet. 40 hp suzuki.......not my first choice, but getting this boat at a 'seller needs money' price, I wasn't going to complain much, it looks really good. The single most important thing, the wife liked it!

We'll be using it mostly for 'throw a line with a float on it' type fishing. When we take the camper to the lake, we'll use it for some riding, and as a swimming platform. I might pick up a towable tube of some kind, but I do realize it's not really gonna give a good enough ride to keep anyone all that intersted, or is it?

I've owned several boats through the years, but this is my first pontoon. I've already experienced pulling it home, so I realize it's going to pull differently. Not a problem for me really, I've pulled just about every kind of trailer there is but a tanker. there are a few questions I have though:

the seller said that tilting the motor should be done with the pin on the motor, not the electric trim? that the electric trim was only for trailering it? Do you really worry much about trimming a motor this size on a pontoon? it's not like my bassboat where I trim it up after I get up on plane, is it? Also, the boat has the metal transom, he said he just always let the motor down all the way to trailer to and from the lake. All those years pulling boats and putting the transom saver under the motor to trailer it......is he right or do I need some type transom saver? I worry about pulling it lowered all the way. Should I just flip the tab up on the motor, and trim it down onto it?

any tips tricks for this pontoon newbie greatly appreciated! I only have the pic from his ad, if it stops raining this evening I'll get a few more to put up

Harris makes a boat named the Kayot. Harris makes good solid boats. As far as tilting the motor you will not get much difference in performance using the tilt, just level the motor and go. When towing you can leave the motor down as long as the trailer is tall enough, but I usually it up and rest it on the factory latch. I do not use a transom saver on my pontoon, but do not see how it could n[hurt either.

thanks guys! bhile, that is awesome, I have no clue which of the 91 models it is. Tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll crawl around under it a little bit more than I did while inspecting and specifically look for another id tag.

crb478, thanks for the input. The factory latch is what I was referring to, I don't see why it would hurt to just use that. A transom saver would have to be really long to even come close.

Thanks for the tips!

Congrats on the new purchase!
As far as your towable tube question, i would suggest not even getting one. With the 40hp motor it probably won't making tubing very enjoyable....but for everything else you wil be fine

Re: 1991 Kayot - who makes it?

ok it's been a few days but I'm back for an update. I got a chance to put the pontoon in the water Friday afternoon. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I was afraid with the smaller motor it would just putt putt around, but I took the GPS with me and actually got to 21 mph. So it wasn't as bad as I thought.

My first experience with a Suzuki boat motor. I have owned a couple of suzuki dirt bikes back in my young and dumb days, LOL. never had any trouble with them. I do think I'm going to like the boat motor. Ran like a sewing machine! I went ahead and did a debarb with a gallon of gas/can of seafoam in the smaller tank, It has a good stream from the water pump, but, previous owner didn't know when it had last been changed, so next week I'll get one and change it and the lower unit oil out.

We spent the day today 'arranging' things, trying where to best store what we want to take with us. I replaced the fire extinguisher as well. the only gauge on this boat is the 3 light oil level gauge. no tach or anything. Is a tach really necessary? I can order one and put it in myself, I'm just not sure it really needs it though.

ok got a few more pics to post from Friday, for a 1991 boat, this one's been taken good care of, I am tickled with it so far. weather permitting, we're heading out tomorrow afternoon with the kids and grand kids to do some riding. We had to pick up some life vests, we didn't have but a couple, so now I have enough to cover the 'total of 8' capacity. Oh, and for the record, yes it's made by Harris, I found another decal that showed that......

Wow, did you get that out of a time machine, it looks brand new, very nice rebuild by someone.

Suzuki is probably the smallest brand of outboard but are very highly rated, talking to a bot rental guy in Florida and he said that is the only engine he will buy.

Very nice

thanks 5150, yeah it hasn't been that long since the previous owner put new seats and carpet on. I'm working on re-doing the stripes and lettering. when I get the new GA decal, I intend to take the old letters off, strip it out and repaint and put new letters on. He had actually gone to walmart and bought colored duct tape to cover fading stripes, LOL got a good start on one side yesterday, will finish a bit at a time.

rained here in NW GA with possible thunderstorms all day so we didn't take her out. there's always next weekend!

Nice boat and I always liked the way that Harris boats rode and handled the waves. If you are getting 21 mph from the Suzuki your are doing pretty good so only get a tach if you really want one. The Suzuki's have a great reputation and yours sounds like a good match for the boat. Keep taking care of that boat and it will probably outlast you.

You have yourself a fine looking toon. My wife and I are currently in the market for a 24 footer. There is a Marina in Madison Wis. that has over 100 used and old stock toons and we are hoping to find a 2 or 3 year old at a very reasonable price. Research on new pontoons puts the price range way over my head for a top of line model. But We could easily afford a toon that was a few years old. My brother in law has a 2007 Skeeter bass boat. It was delivered with a 225HP Suzuki motor and is one of the best motors he has ever owned. Enjoy and boat safe.

Float it in good health! Beautiful 'toon. We traded our 'go fast' ski boat for our 18' Tracker with a 75hp Merc. Best I can do is 24mph. Grand Kids LOVE it!!!
