hey guys i just want to say you guys are awesome!!! well heres the scoop. im buying my new outboard this weekend and i need to know which outboard would be better to buy. a 1991 mariner 200hp, or a 1977 mercury 850 85hp, are these good years for these motors? which one would make me be on the water fishing and which one will have me be in the shop fixing it or are the both good? any help would be greatly apreciated.

It would be kinda helpful if you shared what you are planning to put it on. On the choice - the condition is much more important than the year or make even (with a couple of major and often written about exceptions - ever notice how many Chrysler/Force posts there are or how many happy FICHT owners post here?). A well maintained 1970 motor is a better buy than a poorly maintained 1990 even though they were made 20 years apart.

so little,

either one is going on a 16 foot starcraft deep v. i also forgot to add the mariner has a high five 26 inch pitch prop, while the merc has a stainless steel 3 blade 19 inch pitch on it.
