Going to see if the water tube grommet under the power head needs replacing. The bolts are loose but as yet have not removed power head. I'll force water up that tube to make sure before I pull it off. What is the best overall book for outboard maintenance for all users?
The serial # is A148102, does this tell you when it was made?

Attached hose to water tube, water is coming out of the pee hole. Should I now assume the water pump is not working properly? I installed a new impeller and no water is being pumped while the rabbit ears are attached to the bottom of the outboard. Should I put the lower unit back on and try putting in a trash can full of water to see if it will pump? I checked all passages and flushed to make sure no blockages are present.

Are you letting it warm up so the thermostat opens? Also make sure the impeller key is in correctly and the vanes on the impeller are spun the right way before putting it back together.

The model and year I have does not have a thermostat. I will check the impeller key. It can only go on one way so that the flat side matches the shaft flat side correct?

Upon latest inspection I found something that should have been obvious. As I spun the drive shaft and held the impellor the impeller slipped. It has a plastic center core. I might have the first time put the cover for the pump assembly on too tight and this caused the slippage possibly ruining the new impeller. Now time for a new impeller. Are there any with the brass center core anymore?:%

You could hold the impeller while you spun the shaft? You sure the key is in it and not flopped out under the impeller? I used a dab of grease to hold the key on the flat and slid the impeller down so the slot matched the key..then you spin the shaft Clockwise to set the vanes while pushing the impeller the last little bit. Are your plates on the right way also? So the little holes line up?
