Re: 1991 Merc. Force (50hp) water pump repair
Just wondering if you found out how to accomplish this, or anyone has some advice?
Problem: I'm not getting any water to the engine. After a little research here, I've tried several things: removing the thermostat and housing, flushing the pipes with a hose, etc. Water seems to move through the system okay with the hose spraying straight up the inlet pipe, and from the thermo housing going out. But when I'm running the engine with the lower unit attached and muffs on, I'm not getting any water up to the thermostat.
I removed the lower unit and opened up the impeller housing. Although it doesn't seem all that worn, I assume this is the problem. However, I can't figure out how to remove the bushing at the top of the driveshaft (other than vising and whacking the crap out of it). Possibly it isn't designed to be removed and I should disassemble the lower unit? Seems like a lot of trouble to replace the impeller. Any help would be appreciated.
