I brought a 1991 Astro bass boat used put it in the water and it ran fine stoped to fish a dropoff started back up ran about twenty yards and it wouldnt get back on plane after that put in a new staitor thats not it. there is a oil reserve tank on boat that has oil in it and I think the previous owner was mixing the gas in the tank if so would this be part of my problem or could it be something else like the fuel pump or carberator help...........

Could be a fuel problem check the lines, carbs, fuel pump etc. Could be ignition too. Do you have spark on all cylinders? If it doesnt plane, how many RPMs does it run?

Its worth checking that the trigger isn't sticking. The trigger rotates and advances the ignition timing and is under the flywheel. With the engine turned off ask someone to put off put in gear and open to full throttle whilst you watch the trigger lever on the port side of the motor. This comes up from the throttle lever to just under the flywheel and it's spring loaded, so under full throttle you should be able to move it freely to and fro. It's also quite possible that you have a duff switchbox on the starboard side or a bad earth somewhere, from a coil perhaps. Each switchbox supplies 3 coils you could be losing spark to a couple of cylinders under load.
