Good day everyone, here to document my rebuild project on a new-to-us boat we picked up last year. A 1991 starcraft eurostar, ski & fish edition, 21ft, bowrider. Great family boat set up. We outgrew our 16ft starcraft bass boat when kid # 3 arrived.
went to look at it and give it a good going over. Found a few issues at the time (including a piece of delaminated glass in the bilge), but decided it wasnt too bad of an issue. Yes, it turned out to be a very big issue. Haggled the price a bit, and brought her home. One issue to fix, which led to where we are now, was a hole in the exhaust antlers, suspected to be caused by the exhaust back flow flapper pin coming loose. In any regard, to repair that requires pulling the motor. During the motor pull, one of the mounting blocks got hung up on the engine block, resulting in the forceful removal of a large section of floor. After a good solid 5 mins of cussing, more digging and cutting revealed stringers and engine mounting blocks that were essentially mush. The only thing supporting the motor was the sole and a piece of fiberglass. How this motor did not self extricate is a miracle on it's own. During the demo I discovered the transom was a nice 3 piece unit. Single piece in the centre with 2 outboard panels. I realize this is a normal thing but still cant believe it was a thing. Seems too..... flimsy...... Fast forward to yesterday June 2. After hours and hours of demo, and over 24 hours of grinding, I installed her new 1 piece transom. Had to get creative with the gap left over from the previous 3 pieces, but i think i did an ok job.
Clamps and blocks coming off tonight. Had to get creative on the fly. One side had a gap between filler block and new transom that I had to quickly laminate a piece of 1708 in place.
have to figure out how to upload more than 1 photo at a time from my phone but this is her.
