Hi all,
A simple question I hope someone can help me with. I will be getting my rebuilt 225 back in a couple of days from my mechanic. My question is there a break in period that I need to go through like you would a new engine? Any thing that I should check after the break in period, etc. Thank you for any help.

Re: 1991 Yamaha 225 Rebuild Question

ask the rebuilder for the specific fuel/oil mix, and procedure.
rebuilt means different things to different folks.
ranges from a can of krylon to an actual total recondition.
most techs simply cant rebuild an engine.
happens.

Re: 1991 Yamaha 225 Rebuild Question

It is oil injected. The oil pump is new. As far as the rebuild goes, all new bearings, one new cylinder, all new rings, gaskets kits, etc. I heard there is a break in period for the new rings. That is my biggest concern. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: 1991 Yamaha 225 Rebuild Question

hey there 242, i have the same motor as yours and will write what the manual says for running your motor in. Before you start your engine make sure that your oil pump has been bled properly!!

step 1:

mix your fuel to a ratio of 50:1

Running in time: 10 hours

step 2: Run the engine at the lowest possible speed for the first ten minutes.

step 3: With an easy planning boat, bring it into the planning position; then, immediately reduce the throttle to approximately 3,000rpm (half throttle), continue running at this throttle setting for 50 minutes.

step 3: Bring the boat into planning position and reduce throttle to 4,000rpm or 3/4 throttle (approximately) while maintaining planing. Continue running at this throttle setting for 1 hour.

Note: Run at full throttle for approximately 1 out of every 10 minutes.

step 5: for the next 8 hours, avoid continuous full throttle operation for more than five minutes.

step 6: After the first 10 hours, use pure petrol for normal operation of the precision blend system.

Caution: Failure to follow the running-in procedure may result in severe damage to the engine.

THE END:):)
