Hey Guys
I have a 91 50hp thats been running great up untill today when I went to move the motor. I press the power trim button and all I can here is a clicking sound. Same goes for when I try and turn the key over, its almost like a buzzing sound. I don't know a lot about outboard motors and I'm kind of lost on this one so if anyone has any suggestions on what the problem might be that would be awesome. The battery is fully charged aswell.

Thanks Guys

Hi, Scottie.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Pretty classic symptoms of corrosion in battery cable connections. Worst offender is the ground cable connection to the engine block, but remove and clean all of them, both ends.

Let us know what you find.

Re: 1991 Yamaha 50 Problems

So I pulled off the battery conections cleaned them all up, there was alot of corrosion there. Tryed the motor and still the same clicking/buzz sound, I think its coming form the starting soliond??? So I start checking out the motor, looking for broken wires or corrosion, found nothing. Went to check the voltage on the starter(I think). Pulled off the rubber protectors, hit the trim button and it works??? No idea what happened but seems to be fine now. Anyone have any idea incase this happens next time I'm on the water?

Thanks

AHA!! Corrosion has gotten into the connection that you pulled the rubber boot off of. Take that one off and clean it, too.
