1992 115 hp merc

hi guys im lookin at buying a 1992 mercury 115 hp 4 cylinder outboard and i cant find much info on these motors does anyone know any reliablity issues with these motors or anything i should look at before buying. mercury didnt make these motors for long, dont know if that was because they had problems with them. also was lookin at a manual online and it says that cylinders 3 and 4 do not fire under 1800 rpm i am assuming this is done as a way of saving gas any one know about these motors. i had a 1984 115 hp mariner so i know a lil about that style. thanks in advance for the info guys i know someone on here is an expert on these outboards........well i have since found out that this motor does not have a tilt trim or the wiring harness that comes from the controls however i have a tilt trim and wiring harness off of a 1984 115 hp mariner 6 cylinder does anyone know if these parts are interchangeable

Merc/Mariner has made these motors for a long time, they are fine motors once dialed in exactly as prescribed in the factory service manual.

Many owners cannot tell when or where the transistion occurs running on 2 or 4 cyls.

I the design was brought about by EPA concerns over idle emissions, operating long periods trolling.

I can tell you that mine performed flawlessly, and I have tuned a number of them, making their owners believers in the design.

I had a 94 125 and overall I thought it was ok.

Pros: Pretty powerful for a 4 banger, ran smooth when in 4cyl. mode, seem to be reliable
Cons: Transition from 2 to 4 not always smooth, was terrible on gas and oil-though most 2 strokers of that era were.

Biggest thing with these 2+2 motors from my expirience and from others I talked to is get them tuned properly and the transition aint bad, if not tuned right they can be a pain.
