my engine has always been hard to start since i bought my boat but once you got her started she flew. Now she wont start at all. I.ve replaced the starter motor and the battery has more than enough power than i need looking at other threads. I've replaced all the wiring with new. when you turn the key its just responding like its a flat battery - a very slow turnover. When i pull out the plugs the motor spins perfectly. As i mentioned earlier when she was running she pushed my 20 ft trophy along at over 26 knots and plugs in all cylinders look as they should. im thinking from all that that compression isnt an issue although thats next on the hitlist to check.

After this im all out of ideas.

Here are a few things to check.

1. Even though you 'know' the battery has enough power, you should check it with a hydrometer or high rate discharge tester to definitely rule it out. Pep Boys and Walmart do this for free.

2. Check the voltage drop at the starter lug with a voltmeter. It should not drop below 10.5. If it does, the solinoid may be the problem. They do wear out especially if you do a lot of start ups.

3. Remove and clean your grounds for the battery and starter. We have cured many starter problems by cleaning grounding surfaces.
