1992 25hp Evinrude...what is this?

This part keeps bending. The motor seems to run just fine, but while I was trying to figure out how to bump up the idle a little, I found this part bent. It is a soft aluminum piece.

It is the idle stop bracket. If you have straightened it out it should be fine.

Problem is that it keeps hitting hard enough to continue to bend it. Not sure if it is just weak or if it is hitting too hard.

Gonna bump this to the top...

It bent again...does anyone see a problem with me making a new bracket out od steel rather than the aluminum that it's made of currently? I can't keep the dang thing close enough to keep the idle up.

Loosen your throttle remote cable. It is most likely not corrected adjusted. When going to idle, the vertical shaft should just touch the idle stop - not bend it!

Thanks for the info. I'll have to do some research thought...I'm not familiar enough with boat motors, not sure what the throttle remote cable is...let alone how to adjust it.

The cable from the remote control back to engine.
There are two, one for gear shift and one for throttle. They both have a 'trunnion' on the threaded part that should be adjusted properly. The one for your throttle, seems to push the throttle too far back and bending the stopper.
That said, the 'old' one was made of SST and a bit more solid than the alu one you got.
