...my father and I took the lower unit off thinking that maybe the impeller was bad but it looks
just fine. In fact, my dad took it to a repair shop for a mechanic to look at and he said that
there is nothing wrong with it. The mechanic then suggested that maybe the thermostat isn't
working properly (sand buildup?) which could cause the problem. So, a week later we pulled
the thermostat and there was some corrosion but that was it. Regardless, we then started the
motor without the thermostat and still weren't getting any water to spit out of the exhaust
holes. Now we are stumped. If the impeller is fine and the thermostat isn't the cause then
what could it be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a Force 120 with the same problem, I took the manifold off to find a piece of trash blocking the water outlet hole. This stopped the water from being able to exit the motor thus causing it to over heat. Hope this helps

C

How difficult is it to take the manifold off?

It wasn't a hard task on the 120, I can't answer how hard the 40 will be. If you don't have one already I would suggest getting a manual, it should explain how to do this task step by step

C

Well I had the same problem with my ob, and before I did anything like taking it apart, my friend grabbed a hose and turned it on and put it to the outlet. It now runs great with alot of water gushing out of the outlet. Maybe that will help....
