Hey there, i had gear oil coming out of my water intake so pulled the leg of my outboard and pulled of the water pump etc etc, what im trying to do though is get the gear box of the leg because i presume thats where the leak is, now i have got one bolt undone which was inside the gear box when i took the prop and bearings of but there is a bolt which i presume runs all the way down from where the water pump is and goes right down to the gear box, i have got the nut undone which was directly behind water pump and given the bolt a hit but the bottom still wont budge. i have got half of it undone but i cant get it completly apart because of this bolt, anyone have any ideas would be much appreciated.

There should be several long studs that hold the lower portion of the gear case together. Look for some additional nuts similar to the one you found behind the water pump.

hey there, no i have pulled of every nut i can find and cheaked for any other nuts or bolts but theres definitly nothing, it's only just held up because of this one bolt which runs down behind the water pump. thought about putting some heat onto it.

Yep! It is a stud about 6-8 inches long. It tends to corrode and you will need to beat it out. Try some heat, and keep a nut on the top so you don't **** up the threads, but it will probably fight you all the way. You may need another 3/8 bolt or a long punch to beat it all the way out.

If you do get it apart, when you reassemble, coat it with anti-seize.

One last thing to add to franks suggestion is to clean the exposed portion of the stud that you can get to of any corrosion to help with it passing through and possibly soak it with some penetrating fluid of some kind
