My 9.9 Merc was running perfectly and then died. After determining the problem to be fuel related and replacing the fuel line barb, fuel filter and housing and then removing the carb to determine if anything looked faulty I re-installed and the motor would still not run. Only after manually depressing the accelerator pump will it run and only for 3-4 seconds, to keep it running I need to depress this buttom every 2 seconds. Is there something I am missing??? Thanks

Sounds like the high speed jet is either plugged or the low speed pick up tube between the float bowl and mixing camber is

Thanks for you quick reply. I was unable to see a problem with the main jet. Is this pick-up tube inside the main carb body?

Remove the float bowl off the carb then the little plate on the top cover, the little tube that runs down from the mixing camber(under the plate) to the float bowl is the low speed pickup tube

Thank-you again. I eventually gave up after trying your suggestions and took the motor to a mercury carb "specialist". He took it all apart again and said that his main concern was that there was dirty water in the carb. I was shocked. I then immediately checked my tank, apparently water had gotten in. Hopefully this will not happen again as I understand the motor is running fine on a different tank of fuel.
