1992 90hp Johnson trim question

I recently bought a Johnson 90hp. The previous owner informed me that when he had the mechanic come and look over the boat, the guy bled the hydraulic line for the trim setup. Now the trim doesn't lift the engine. I have some questions:

1) Why would the mechanic think he needed to bleed the line in the first place? What could be wrong with the setup other than lack of fluid?

2) Is it easy to replace hydraulic fluid?

3) What kind of fluid should I use?

Thanks

I had the same question the other night and I did a search for tilt/trim and found what I was looking for.

Very easy to fill your fluid. Unscrew the resevoir fill screw and top it up, cycle the motor a few times, then re fill. If you go to your local marina, theyll have some fluid for you.

Thanks for the advice. I live in a really remote community in the Canadian Arctic and we have no marinas. Would ATF work or should I order the real stuff online?

Yea I think the ATF will work OK, just don't use the blue hydraulic.
