I am fairly certain the ladder is leaking, but I can not get the screws removed( they just spin). The ladder is mounted underneath the boat on one of the platform extensions and I can not see what the screws are going into. Are the usually nuts and bolts or just screwed into the glass? If they are nuts and bolts, how do I get to them??

Thanks for any help.

I know this post is old, but I appear to literally have the same exact issue. Were you able to resolve the issue? If so, any reco's?

You'll have to drill the screw heads out to remove the ladder, and since they're spinning it'll be a little more difficult. You'll need to apply pressure on the ladder bracket by either pulling on it or wedging it away from the hull. You can use a small wooden wedge inbetween the bracket and hull for pressure drive it in slowly and carefully and check the screws with the drill to see if you have enough pressure. Use a beand new quality drill bit and go slowly, as long as the bit is making chips and cutting the slower you can go the better. You can burn a new drill bit up in just a few seconds trying to drill stainless at high speeds. If your bit becomes warm/hot, dip it in water to cool it off.

Once you have the ladder off patch your holes. If you want to remount your ladder you'll have to access the bilge to install the backing plate and nuts on the bolts.

If you are drilling stainless I would recommend keeping the drill bit lubricated with cutting oil. Failing true cutting oil, plain old motor oil works pretty well.
