I have a 1992 Crownline 182 that is taking in water. I have checked the rub rail around the swim platform and tightened the screws. The bellows all look good, the exhaust manifolds are showing no signs of leaks, and the transom shows no sign of leaking around the outdrive. The transom hooks do have alot of silicone around them, but I cannot see where they come into the boat. There is a ladder on the underside of the swim platform that some of the six screws just turn and do not tighten, so I siliconed the heads of them. Still taking water.....any help will be greatly appreciated.

Could it be your plug?
Maybe you have a hose thats lose or damaged.

Check around your plug.
Check for engine leaks (coolant/impeller/water pump...) run the engine while on the trailer with the muffs on.
How much water are you getting, a lot or a little? Under what conditions, sitting in the water, engine running out of water, while underway?

My Crownline was doing the same thing and I couldn't for the life of me find the leak. Was pulling a skier one day and turned around sharply to retrieve and saw a bit of water run down the side cubby. But it would take on water even if I wasnt pulling people. So I sealed ALL of the rub rail parts and havent had a drop of water get in since. I think some was getting sprayed up from the outdrive and getting in past the rub rail in the rear of the boat as well.

silocon is not the best sealer to use on a boat. if you have screws and bolts that are loose and will not tighten-up silocon smeared on them will not stop them from leaking.

Re: 1992 Crownline 182 water comming in boat

Thanks for all the replies. I have let it run for about 20 minutes on the muffs and found no leaks in the water pump, water hoses, exhaust bellows or anywhere else motor related. I checked the drain plug by putting some water in the bilge and lifting the bow and found nothing, although it seems to take alot more torque to remove the drain plug than I put on it when I install it. It almost seems to screw itself tighter.

As far as the amount of water, it varies from maybe a quart to the last time a couple of gallons. About the same amout of tome on the water and noone getting in and out.

Is there a way for water to come back thru the exhaust in a prop exhaust when slowing or stopping? It is not going into the engine, so I know it is not going back through the valves.
I inspected all the bellows on the drive and they are all pliable and in great shape( have receipts showing them replaced 3 years ago.)
As far as sealing the rubrail and swim ladder, what are the best ways to do this, and what should I use?
Again, Thanks for all the help so far.....I hope to get this found and fixed soon.
