Hello all, been lurking a few months and sucking up as much of the great info as I can get out of this forum. Very great site and has helped me out very much.

Although... I now have come to a point that I now need to ask. I put a new starter in last Thursday (10/2/2003) with the advice of this forum, helped out that problem(slow crank, dead battery symptoms). Well, took her out for a test run and ran great. It seemed my plugs my have missed a few times while running . It had been a little while since they had been changed so I didn't think much about it and put new plugs in. Friday morning now. Took my daughter out to do some Salmon fishing. My kicker has been in the shop so I have been trolling on the main motor. Coming back in she seemed fine, all of a sudden it seemed to be missing badly and I was loosing power??? I backed off for a minute and then powered up and all seemed well again. Cruising along for about five minutes and she lost power again from the top end. It will only run up to about 3500RPM's? I pulled the motor cover off while we were going in to see if the throttle had slipped, it didn't. But, I did hear a clicking sound coming from what seemed to be right around the fly wheel? The motor runs fine at below 3500RPM's and everything seems fine? It's just powering up there is no power. We got back in going about half power to the marina. When we got to our slip I pulled the cover off again and didn't hear the clicking any more and the motor sounded fine? Anyone experience anything like this? Suggestions? After reading through some other topics it's sounding like a possible stator issue? I have only owned this boat for a year now and she has run pretty darn well but I know the previous owner had the stator replaced about 4 years ago. One other thing, on this tank of gas I switched to a synthetic oil to try it out, don't know if that has anything to do with this?

Thanks in advance.

Lets check the compression and spark. As for the stator...I have my doubts as your rpm seems to stay too high for the stator to be dropping out.

We will be looking for 1 cyl to be dropping out or a fuel restriction.

TMD

Will do Doc. Going out after work to check the comp and spark.

While I am out there is there anything else I can check..IE. If both are good or if one or the other is not good?

I am pretty sure the spark is good. While running under 3500 I'm not missing and everything sounds great. I did hear the clicking noise though coming from around the fly wheel.. It just wont power up past 3.5k now.. it was a little closer to 3k rpm though?

Thanks..

The stator will knock it down 2 cyl's or 4 cyl's. This would limit you to no speed or just above idle.

TMD
