Hello all, I have a 92 40hp force I installed a new impeller and telltale, I am not getting to much water flow with muffs on. the old impeller came out in pieces.. with the new impeller after running 5-10 mins the temp buzzer goes off. I have not had the boat on the water yet because of this, am wondering if it were in a lake it would pump better.. or is something plugged?

any input would be great...

thank you

If the old impeller came out in pieces???
Then some pieces are probably still in the tube.
Try to clean them out.
The 40-50 needs a special muff. The big one doesn't seal right.
If the tube isin't clogged try taping the muffs and tape it good.

It doesn't cool on the hose neither will it at the lake. Check the water ckt again. You can actually get a right size hose and directly connect it to the tube in the mid-leg and should see cooling water go in and out. And then check the thermostat for blockages since the old impeller disintegrated.

You can also use air but start at low pressure like 30 PSI. don't forget to check on the thermostat though for if a debris jam the thermostat the engine will always overheat because cooling water doesn't get routed properly.

well I backflushed with both air and water through the t-stat hole, reinstalled the l/u and got it fired up and seems to pump water good now. not sure what was clogged in the water jacket or tube didn't see anything come out when backflushed.. I tested the t-stat and started opening up around 145 deg, will probably order a new one, can I run the motor w/o the t-stat til I get the new one?

thanks much for all the help...
