I'm 3 days into restoring my Four Winns.

I've got most of the carpet out of the boat. What would be the best method to get out the scraps of old carpet still sticking the floor and getting rid of the old glue without harming the fiberglass?

It appears that the only wood rot I have is on the front bow seats and the bench seat which I already took out. I know I'm going to have to fabricate a new backbench and bow seats - my question is, what is the adhesive used on the "seams" of the bow seats? Between the wood and the fiberglass on the boat where it's flush with the side.

Did that make sense? Any other tips, books, etc would be appreciated.

Pics soon!

Welcome to the iboats restoration forum.
The best method I know of for removing the carpet glue is with a wire brush on a drill or grinder. I don't know what seam you mean. A picture might clear it up. Good luck with your restoration and be sure to share photos

Thanks. I got tired of it looking so bad. Will be adding new speakers, new cupholders where there weren't any, other small upgrades!! Can't wait.

Here is a pic with 70% of the carpet removed.

This is what I was talking about - where the wood meets the fiberglass. What adhesive is used here?

Or should I not rip these out at all and just reinforce the old wood with new?

It really bothers me wrapping old wood with new carpet.

What would be the best method to get to this spot here? My thinking was unscrew everything and just support this side with a piece of wood.. then rip out all that old carpet.

There is a little bounce to the board running through the bow - no big deal right?

Your bow is different from mine. My bow seats are actually part of the cap. I couldn't tell you what that adhesive is. I would think that the seat would be glassed to the hull.
You could lay a 2x4 across the bow and support the seats with a board underneath and strap through the hole.
Are you going to pull the carpet out of the ski locker? The carpet in mine was holding water and the wood underneath was rotten.
The bounce in the deck is bad sign.

Yeah I'm going to pull the carpet out of there as well. All the old carpet is going.

My ski locker was retaining water also. I'd like to have a nice 2.5" drain tube like a saw on another thread.

I need to get deeper into this thing, I have no idea what lurks underneath there at the moment.
