I am having a strange problem with my 1992 Johnson 150. It will occasionally shut down while running, as if you turned the key off. It does it at all different speeds. After it has shut down, sometimes it will fire right back up, but then it will only go 50 feet or so and shut down again, and eventually it will not start again(cranks, but does not fire). When it will not start, I checked and I am not getting any spark at the plugs. There are not any warning horns or anything. After it quits, if you let it sit long enough (like overnight) it will crank right up for you and run for a while, sometimes all day, sometimes 10 minutes. I am running in weed choked lakes (on trails thru the weeds), but my water pressure appears to be fine, as I am used to checking it regularly. I took it to a mechanic who tested it and found no problems, he actually ran it on the lake for 2 1/2 miles (so he says). He said it tested fine and was the best engine he has seen in 3 months. After he looked at it, I only made it about 100 yards down the lake before it quit on me (and he was long gone).<br />any help/suggestions? I dont even know how to recreate the problem for a mechanic, unless he fishes with me for a day.
