1992 Johnson 60TL won't idle

I am a new boat owner so not real familiar with the motors yet. I winterized them this last winter and first couple of times out this year everything ran great. Last time I went out the motor fires right up but when I close the fast idle lever it dies. I also noticed that the rpm's seemed to be much lower than normal with the fast idle lever all the way up. Just seems like the adjustment is off from what it was. If I turn the black nob on the motor to adjust the fast idle I am then able to keep the motor running but then could not get any rpm's once in gear. Any ideas on what I should be looking for?

if you never rebuild the carbs now its the time.... water pump, thermostats, lower unit oil? if never , cant remember or new owner same deal: change it

I resolved the problem. When I took the top off again I found a screw laying in the bottom of the motor case. I then started the engine and noticed a lot of gas flowing out of the carb. I took the cover off the carbs and found the missing screw was one of those for the fuel flow into the carb. I replaced the screw and it is purring along again!
Thanks for the info, rebuilding could be a good winter project.
