Hello all!

A couple days ago i posted on here regarding my new project. I said it was a 1989 but its not. Its a 1992 Johnson Tracker 60hp. The entire motor is clean and mint looking.. It has a burnt hole in the center piston. Just curious to know if this is a common problem on these models. I seem to have to noticed a few similar posts with similar problems.

Any likely causes if it is in fact common?

Thanks again guys.

Well, no, that burn hole is caused from detonation, and it happens usually when the motor is run lean. Lean isn't good, especially on two strokes and the most common cause of running lean is people having dirty carbs(gum, varnish, etc) clogging the jets, then when they run the motor and giving it gas doesn't do anything, they just push throttle forward more, and BAM, a nice hole in the piston....not the motor's fault, just ignorance.

thanks for the reply. I was just curious to know if these models of outboards are prone to this problem. Every model of engine is different. Whether it be a snowmobile, atv or outboard they all have their flaws. Some are just prone to them. I have never been a johnson owner.

Thanks again
Eric
