1992 Merc 40 hp SN#0D105940 tach install?

Looking for some help on installing a tach, I purchased the plug in cable from Mercury that attaches at the control box, I understand which wires go where, but I'm not sure what the correct setting for the tach is? the tach is used and therefore no paperwork, on the back there is a rotating switch that has many options: c for cylinders p - pulse As I say many options, my motor is a 4 cylinder, and there is an option for 4cyl 2p, among others, any help would be appreciated. Set yours to 4C 4P.

Dunaruna - Thanks for the fast reply! I checked the back of the tach and my options for setting the swith are:<br />1. 5P<br />2. 6P<br />3. 2P4C<br />4. 3P6C<br />5. 4P8C<br />So what's the bad news, wrong tach? Thanks again for your response.

ricksrster, thanks also for the reply, I emailed Mercury, didn't think I'd hear back, and they called me in about 20 minutes and said exactly what you did....set it to the 6p position, and they had my serial number to check it also. Thanks again all for your efforts, Brad
