Apon doing some browsing i have found a 92 merc for 2650. And found a 1990 mariner for 1800. Mariner comes with a warranty. Guy not sure how to warranty 92mercury. Being out of state. I had a 1985 mariner that i am replacing. Question is will it hook. Straight up. And what is the recommended compression on these.
What else should i look for. Commpression on the cylinders are as follows.

1- 135psi

2-135psi

3-130psi

4-130psi

5-128psi

6-130psi
This is for 92 mercury

Yhe compression readings are good for a used motor. The controls should work and the only other thing you might need would be a adaptor to go from a 6 pin to 8 pin electrical conection at the motor if they are diffrent. JMO

The numbers are good but also consistent which shows the motor is wearing evenly, a good sign as well. Some other stuff to maybe check out? Pull out some lower gear oil make sure there aren't any big metal shavings in it or that it doesn't smell burnt. Spin the prop by hand make sure the prop shaft doesn't wobble. Does it start right up? Run smooth? Shift O.K.? Is the skeg intact? anything to indicate a hard impact on the lower unit? How does the wiring look under the engine cowling? (anything look shorted, burnt or melted) If you do buy it make sure to replace the impeller unless seller has proof it was done within last 2 years. Any pics of the motor?

Still have my lower unit that fit my 85 mariner. Will it fit this model. Shaft is a 20 also with the bigger gear box. Think 2.0 gear ratio

Are ya sayin these other motors ('90, '92) have tha small gearcase on 'em? Do ya know if they're 2.0, 2.4 (possibley '90) or 2.5 (possibly '92)? Both could be 2.0 motors. Carb or efi? Got a link? Lot of these guys on ebay don't don't know their butt from a jelly donut when it comes to tha Merc stuff!

All will hook right up without any changes................Yes, your gearcase will work with either. Yours may be a pre-load which won't make any difference. Think '84/'85 might have been last year for tha pre-load type gearcase but will work never tha less.............

Not able to check any of that. Found on ebay.

I'd be real leery of buying an outboard on ebay with out being able to see it and have it checked out first. What you're telling me is you can't verify anything the seller is telling you. If you want to proceed with the buy is there an independent mechanic that can look over the motor before you buy it? I'd hate to see you get screwed either deliberately or because the seller doesn't know himself.

His lower is a 2.1

If thats tha answer to my "small" gearcase question, thats not what meant. I'm refering to tha 4 1/4" hub gearcase that has only 4 water intake holes on each side.
