I have a 1993 Evinrude V6, 150 HP. I think the model number is TS150.
This weekend when I went to start it, the beep you hear when you first turn the key (lasts for less than a second...assume it shows battery charge), did not stop. It went on continuously with or without the motor running. I've owned this boat, my first, for just over a year now so not really sure what it means other than possibly a short. Its the small speaker under the ignition and wasnt sure if it was an engine alarm? It had plenty of oil, good pressure, lower unit oil is new and full, plugs are less than 6 months old, pee-stream present and ran just fine other than that. It doesnt have its speedo/tac hose attached but thats been the case for the past 6 months and ive been just going by my Humminbird's speed indicator.
Appreciate any ideas.
Tks,

Scott, I will presume that you do not have the 4 idiot light warning system on that motor. BTW, You should get an owners manual. I will presume that the warning is for low oil in the VRO tank, since it stayed on w/o the motor running. However it could be a faulty overheat alarm, no oil in the VRO/fuel Pump or no gas in the fuel pump.

First step, fill the VRO tank. If it persists, check the two overheat sensors on the heads to see if they are shorted to ground.

If the alarm persists, pump the oil primer bulb and see if the alarm goes off. If no good, prime the gasoline.

My guess is that your alarm buzzer itself is bad. Start by disconnecting all the tan alarm lead wires on the motor one at a time.. If you disconnect one and the alarm stiops buzzing then the problem lies in that alarm sensor or that wire.

Re: 1993 150 HP Evinrude help

Thanks guys.

Sorry for dumb questions as I said i'm pretty much a novice.
I do plan on getting a manual. It doesnt have the 'idiot lights' Chris mentions..at least that I know of, lol. The reserve tank was close to full - I had just added oil and was about 3/4 full. I did not however pump the oil bulb so will try that.
If the over-heat sensor is faulty how do I check that? It wasnt over-heating as I had just put into the water and not run the motor, and this was my intitial start of the day. The beeping happened before the motor even turned over.
What Walker mentions about a bad alarm buzzer is what I hope it is. I will try
by disconnecting all the tan wires as well, but i'm wondering if you guys might
tell me what all that alarm senses? I know overheating, oil, but how many different issues. I ask because I also have a problem with the tilt/trim going up. Every once in a while the motor doesnt want to go 'up'. When I wiggle the 12v fuses it then works so assume its a loose wire, but I cant imaging that setting off an alarm since I have had that problem for almost a year now and it happens so infrequent I havnt bothered replacing any fuses (assuming thats what they are).

Tks again,
Scott

Sometimes the float switch in the oil tank looses its magnet and the switch is stuck on until you replace the float switch. Test by disconnecting one or both of the float switch wires on the port side of the engine. Turn key on, noise gone you've found the problem.

Not to hyjack your post but....I need this float switch. I havent found it without buying the entire 3 gallon oil tank assembly. Anyone have a part number??? Or source????

I had the same problem. It was a bad horn.

Re: 1993 150 HP Evinrude help

Thanks again and no problem on the hijak. Im encouraged to see im not alone.
Hope this helps you too.

What Walker recommended worked. I unplugged each tan wire separately until the alarm went off. The one that killed the alarm is shown in attached pictures.
Not sure if this is the oil/float switch connection but see photos and appreciate any further help.

'wideangle'.jpg : shows what I believe to be the path of that wire. Starting at the bottom following the green arrows (if they show up as I edited!). At the bottom you see the tan wire that disconnected the alarm.

'point1'; shows where the tan wire enters the taped wire bundle.

'point3'; shows where I think the tan wire ends.

'topview'; shows the the topside down.
I'm now checking on ISHOPMARINE.com as they have schematics.
(FL_Richard you might check there for that part as well as they have very detailed by part no. info)

Re: 1993 150 HP Evinrude help

It looks just like the oil float switch wiring. I have practically the same motor 1995 150.

I've been running it unplugged for two years... Love to have it working again. Hate to replace the whole tank as it very tough to get to.

EDIT-- If the long end of the wire goes back up the harness into the boat that's it for sure. Unplugging it will silence the alarm. Don't forget to keep the oil full!

Thanks much I think thats it because the long end does go back up into
the boat. If you look at the topview pic, it shows the bundle of cord hanging down (circled in green). A black and a tan wire come out of that one black wire housing and go up into the motor. The remaining long side back to the boat through the harness.
