I have the stated outboard and seem to be having problems with the speedometer and trip-meter (Yamaha digital instrumentation). I do get a reading on each, sometimes, but it is not accurate. Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

first insure the speedo pitot tube and the tubing is clear and operable.after that test all connections.but there is no service to the gauge

My best advice for the long run would be to forget it and get a GPS. Those pitot tube systems are a continous service problem. They can be fine if you run in a fresh water lake with no debris. Other wise expect to constantly repair.

Thanks Ray. The boat is mainly run in saltwater, so I guess I'll just utilize the GPS, like you said. I didn't know if there was a way I could run maybe a "weed-eater" string into the pitot tube where it connects to the outboard from the console (i.e., run-it into the outboard and toward the console, to maybe clean-out the debris). Thanks again.<br /><br /><br />

Thanks robolt. I was thinking about utilizing a "weed-eater" string into the tube where it connects to the outboard from the console (i.e., run-it into the outboard and also toward the console, to maybe clean-out any debris). Is that what you recommend to clean-out the tubing? BTW, I found a "VERY" small hole near the "skeg" (in front) that only a "clothing-needle" will fit in. Is this where the "intake" for the speedometer is located? If it is a lot of trouble to clean-out, I'll just take Ray's advise and stick with the GPS suggestion. However, the instrumenation sure is impressive to look at and it would be nice to have it working property. Thanks again.<br /><br /><br />

That is the pickup. A very small drill can be used to clean it out. Pain in the you know what and will clog back up, sometimes quicker than you can clean it.

Thanks Ray. I don't think I could even get a small drill bit in hole, unless I drill it out a little more, which probably wouldn't be a good idea, huh? Anyway, like I said, I tried to use a clothing needle/pin to stick in the hole. Even a small finishing nail wouldn't work. I think I will punt and stick with the GPS. Thanks so much.<br /><br />Michael<br /><br /><br />
